Potato Program

Our potato program is 25 years in the making, and it continues to improve year after year. In the fall of 2013 we constructed a state of the art greenhouse which over doubled our planting space for the early generation potatoes. We begin all of our potatoes from certified tissue cultures in the greenhouse. By doing so we can create the most optimal environment for our potatoes and keep them free from disease and other outside factors. During each crop rotation in the greenhouse, samples of every variety are sent off to be inspected and tested for disease. We follow the WSDA Potato Program to ensure that we are only growing the best organic seed potatoes for future generations.

We strive to provide our customers with a diverse variety of quality organic seed potatoes. Our potatoes are double certified by the Washington State Department of Agriculture through the organic division and seed potato division. We compete with approximately 400 other seed potato growers in the United States and we are only one of ten certified organic seed potato growers nationwide.

There are many aspects of our company that set us apart from other growers. We are on of the few double certified growers in the U.S. that starts our seed potatoes in our greenhouses from tissue cultures. In 2013 we began offering our pre-nuclear seed potatoes in our catalog and we are pleased to be continuing that in the years to come. This year we are excited to announce we are going to be selling our “nuclear” seed potatoes. The nuclear seed potato is the harvest you get when you plant your pre-nuclear potatoes in native soil for the first time. These two generations of potatoes are not offered by any other retail company in the United States. Irish Eyes offers over 40 varieties of seed potatoes to our customers. We make it a point to regularly add to our potato crop rotations so customers always have new varieties to try. We grow older, heirloom varieties that your grandparents or great-grandparents may have grown in their garden years ago. We also produce and provide our customers with unique, colorful varieties that might otherwise be hard to find. Potatoes are our pride and joy and we are so pleased to be able to share them with you.
