Strawberries are available April 15th.
Flower buds are deep green with a light purple blush, 3-5 inches in diameter with tasty, thick, flavorful hearts. Give artichokes room to spread, since mature plants can reach 3-4' tall and up to 4' wide. CULTURE: Sow indoors about 8 weeks before first frost date, ¼" deep. Transplant for 8-10 days to induce earlier budding after danger of frost has passed, but temperatures are still 50°. Plant 2-3' apart. To harvest, cut buds before they open. Mulch over winter. MIN SOIL TEMP: 60° F SOIL: Well-drained, sandy or loam. PESTS: Aphids and slugs.
