Onions from Sets

To harvest the earliest possible Spring scallions plant sets in fall and let them overwinter. Sets sprout well in cold, wet, spring soils where seed cannot germinate and can be harvested in less than two months. Can be used to produce storage bulb onions, but in midsummer, many of the plants started from these sets bolt, producing seed stalks without forming good bulbs. An easy, reliable way to grow bulbing onions is with our vigorous southern-grown transplants sold online. Growing bulb onions from our transplants is just about as easy as growing scallions from sets. 1 lb. = 80-100 bulbs.
