Beets require full sun to develop properly. Horizons or rings result from fluctuating temperature and moisture conditions. Most diseases are the result of nutrient deficiencies, particularly of boron which causes interior browning. Boron and other trace-mineral deficiencies can be cured with kelp products. Clip greens for a nutritious salad when roots are at least half size. Harvesting after frost increases sugar content and improves storage qualities. Trim tops and root cellar in high humidity above freezing. One packet = 5 g = 200 seeds, sows 20'. 1 lb. = 17,000 - 40,000 seeds. CULTURE: Sow seed 1/2" deep, 1" apart, in rows 10" apart.
