Easy to grow. Planting lots in early spring creates shortages by mid-summer. Plant every 2 weeks from thaw to mid-summer. Bolts in hot weather so provide shade for mid-summer growing or plant mid-summer to grow in fall. Likes rich soil but will produce in poor. Head lettuce grows best from seedlings but don't water overhead after heads have developed. One packet = 1 g. = 850 seeds, sows 40 ft. 1 oz. = 20,000-30,000 seeds. CULTURE: Sow 4-5 seeds per foot, 1/4" deep, 10-18" between rows. If large plants are desired, thin to 12-15 inches apart. Deep bed spacing 8 inches. For transplanting, sow in flats 4 seeds per inch and set out 4-5 weeks later, 12-15" apart in rows 10-18 inches apart. SEASON: Cool season. Plant when soil can be worked, 4-6 weeks before last frost and every 2 weeks till mid-July. MIN. SOIL TEMP: 35 degrees Fahrenheit. GERMINATION: 7 days.
