No longer mysterious exotic vegetables known only to gourmet chefs and their clients. They're merely small onions with more interesting flavors than large bulbing onions, and far easier to grow. Widely adapted, and not just for French sauces. We love them served as whole delicious nuggets in stir fries and simmered in ordinary meat and potato stews. Grows best when fall planted, but still productive when started in spring. Most varieties are available for sale both seasons. Space shallots & multiplier onions 4"-6" apart in rows 18" apart. 2 lb plants about 30 row feet. Approx. 20-24 bulbs per pound.
