Spinach

Will germinate in soils as cold as 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Best planted early Spring or in Fall before the ground freezes. Usually bolts with onset of very hot weather; likes a pH above 6.0 and will proved larger, leafier plants with richer soil. Pick early and maintain soil moisture to prevent early bolting. One packet = 5 g. = 400 seeds, sows 35 feet. 1 oz. = 36,000-55,000 seeds. CULTURE: Sow 1/4 inch deep, 1 inch apart in rows 12-18 inches apart. Thin plants to 3 inches. Deep bed spacing 4 inches apart. SEASON: Cool season. Plant 4-6 weeks before last frost. Can be planted in mid-fall for earliest spring harvest! MIN. SOIL TEMP: 35 degrees Fahrenheit. GERMINATION: 7-21 days. SOIL: Acid to weakly pH 5.5-6.8. COMPANION PLANT: Strawberries. PESTS: APHIDS: Control with beneficial insects, soap or tobacco sprays. DAMPING OFF: Plant thickly to maintain good stand.
