Description
Gold Nugget Squash is an early, family-sized winter squash bred especially for northern gardeners at the North Dakota Experiment Station and honored as an All-America Selections (AAS) winner in 1966. This dependable heirloom produces 1–3 lb round fruits in rich orange-red tones with faint salmon striping — as beautiful in the garden as on the table.
Inside, you’ll find thick, sweet, deep orange flesh that is smooth and fiberless, delivering excellent flavor and creamy texture when roasted, baked, stuffed, or mashed. Its naturally sweet, nutty taste makes it perfect for simple preparations that let the flavor shine.
Compact bush-type plants yield about four fruits per plant, making Gold Nugget ideal for small gardens and tight spaces. Early to mature and a good keeper, this hardy heirloom is especially well-suited for shorter growing seasons — a true classic for reliable harvests and outstanding eating quality.
