Elephant Garlic is a large, mild-flavored allium known for producing massive bulbs that resemble garlic but are actually more closely related to a leek. Four to six enormous cloves are found in each bulb, which commonly weighs a pound or more. The cloves are very easy-peeling and have a mild garlic-like flavor that is gentle and slightly sweet. While it looks like a giant hardneck garlic, it stores more like a softneck and keeps well after harvest. It is also a popular and profitable market gardener’s crop in some regions.

This variety is valued for its impressive size, easy handling, and versatility in cooking, especially when roasted or grilled for a mellow garlic flavor.
