Katahdin is a classic late-season white potato introduced by the USDA in 1932 and named after Mount Katahdin in Maine. It became one of the most widely grown potato varieties in the eastern United States due to its dependable production, drought tolerance, and broad adaptability. Known for producing large, round to oblong tubers with smooth buff skin and white flesh, Katahdin has remained a longtime standard for home gardeners and commercial growers alike.

This variety is especially valued for its high, uniform yields and excellent storage qualities. Katahdin performs reliably across a wide range of growing conditions and is noted for its tolerance to drought. The tubers store exceptionally well with few culls, making it a dependable choice for long-term winter storage.

Katahdin has a moist texture and mild potato flavor that works well in a wide range of culinary applications. It is especially good baked, mashed, boiled, or used for hash browns and fries. Its versatility, productivity, and strong keeping quality have helped maintain its popularity for nearly a century.

We are nestled in the Kittitas valley just east of the Cascade Mountains – making shipping difficult at times. If it gets below 32F at night, we will postpone shipping your order. We use a quick reference weather map to help us determine the weather along the route our freight companies use to deliver to you. We do offer winter boxes to ship your perishables. These only hold 10 pounds and will not be shipped if the temperatures dip below 0F at the farm or en route to you.

Unless otherwise specified*, all orders ship UPS ground (average 3-7 business days). Storms and other natural forces may delay your order mid transit.

UPS routes are as follows:

• WA, OR, CA, AZ, NM will follow the I5 corridor south
• TX, OK, UT, CO will be sent to Utah and dispersed there
• All other states will follow I90 through North Dakota and be dispersed in Chicago. If it is freezing along that route, your order will be delayed.

If you would like your perishables shipped later, please email the office to have us split your order for you. *Additional shipping charges may occur. If you do not wish to split your order you have two options: email customerservice@irisheyesgardenseeds.com requesting to ship regardless of temperatures or purchase a winter box for your perishables. Please note that we will not ship winter boxes if it is below zero en route to you.

*For orders under 11 pounds, we will only ship USPS. Orders between 11.1 and 100 pounds will ship UPS Ground. If your order weighs more than 100 pounds, please contact customerservice@irisheyesgardenseeds.com as you may qualify for our Market Grower program.

Farming is not guaranteed. Occasionally crop failures or other factors happen that may reduce our yields. When this happens we will need to contact you to find a substitute item or refund you.
