Pre-nuclear potatoes are the earliest generation of potatoes. These are grown from tissue culture in our greenhouses. As these have never been grown in native soil, they are free of disease. These marble sized tubers can produce 200% higher net weight than standard potatoes. This historic variety is one of the few potatoes imported directly from South America, and wasn't grown outside the Makah Nation until the 1980s. The Makah Tribe permitted Slow Food Seattle to board it onto the Slow Food Ark of Taste, a living catalog of delicious and distinctive foods facing extinction.
