Description
Bred and introduced by Dr. James R. Baggett in 1993.
Saucy Paste Tomato is a productive paste-type variety bred for rich flavor, dense flesh, and excellent cooking quality. The elongated, plum-shaped fruits have low moisture content and few seeds, making them ideal for sauces, pastes, canning, and roasting. When cooked, they develop a deep, robust tomato flavor with natural sweetness.
This dependable variety produces heavy yields over a concentrated harvest window, making it especially useful for gardeners who like to process large batches at once. Plants are vigorous and set clusters of uniform fruits that ripen reliably through the season.
- Type: Annual tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
- Growth habit: Indeterminate
- Start indoors: 6–8 weeks before last frost
- Transplant: After all danger of frost has passed
- Sun: Full sun
- Spacing: 24–36 inches
- Days to maturity: 75–85 days
Tomatoes grow best in warm, fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture and strong sunlight. Indeterminate varieties continue growing and producing throughout the season, so staking or caging is important for support and airflow. Regular harvesting encourages ongoing fruit production, and mulching helps retain soil moisture and reduce disease risk from soil splash.
